8 July 2005
Representatives from .au,
.hk .jp, .lk, .my, .nu, .nz, .sg, .tw,
and Afilias met in
The meeting was held
in early July to allow those attending to continue on to the Luxembourg ICANN
meetings, beginning on Sunday 10 July.
General Manager position established
APTLD members agreed to
establish the position of a General Manager for APTLD. A full time senior staff
member will lead the work of the APTLD Secretariat, and focus as an initial
goal on outreach and engagement with the ccTLDs in
the Asia Pacific Region which are not yet members of APTLD. Funding for the
position will come from a combination of a modest increase in membership
subscriptions, budget redeployment, and use of the Association's reserves.
APTLD will begin
seeking applications for this position immediately.
Working Group on
Internet Governance: update
Presentations from .my
and .nz on recent progress in the WGIG process
highlighted the imminent release of the Working Group’s report to the UN
Secretary General. Recent statements by the US Government on the control of the
root were a focus of the discussion.
Fixed Venue for ccTLD manager Training
APTLD members noted
that enhanced training opportunities for ccTLD
managers and DNS operators would be of value to them, and of likely benefit to
the non-member managers in the region. After reviewing the practice of
arranging training sessions in conjunction with APTLD member's meetings which
have been held on rotation around the region, members agreed to investigate
setting up regular training courses at a home base in the central part of the
region
ICANN Strategic Planning process.
Peter Dengate Thrush gave an update on ICANN’s
strategic planning process, and of the status of the current draft plan.
Other items covered
included the current ccNSO PDP regarding the ccNSO’s bylaws; best practices issues; a financial report
and update from the APTLD Secretariat; and updates on current issues from .lk, .tw, .sg,
and .hk.
