Next APTLD Meeting will be held on 23rd August at Busan, Korea

As several AP meetings are to be held at Busan, Korea, next APTLD meeting is scheduled on 23rd August 2003 at Busan Marriott Hotel. Detailed information on meeting agenda will be announced soon on the website. (more)

APTLD On-line Meeting to Discuss Draft APTLD Membership WG Charter

Called and chaired by Vice Chair Yumi Ohashi (.jp), an on-line meeting was held on 30th July to discuss about APTLD Membership WG Charter. WG members Richard St. Clair (.nu), Chris Disspain (.au), Chanki Park (.kr) and the Secretariat were invited to the meeting. Some ideas about new members recruitment were brought into discussion.

APTLD Recommended Peter Denagate Thrush to Participate in ccNSO LG

On 9th July, ICANN called for expressions of interest in serving on the Launching Group. After seeking members' expressions of interest in serving on ccNSO Launching Group and undertaking a voting procedure, APTLD recommended Peter Denagate Thrush to participate in the ccNSO Launching Group. Peter Denagate Thrush has served as APTLD's board member since June 2000. It is believed that he will contribute a lot to ccNSO Launching Group in its future's work. (more)

Professor Hualin Qian nominated for ICANN Board

Professor Hualin Qian (CNNIC), APTLD Board Member, was nominated for a position on the board of ICANN serving from 26 June 2003 ICANN Montreal Meeting to the conclusion of Annual Meeting 2006. On 16th June, ICANN Nominating Committee announced nominees for the ICANN Board, the Council of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO), and the new Interim At Large Advisory Committee (ALAC). ICANN Submits Seventh Status Report to US Department of Commerce

This is the third quarterly report on ICANN’s progress toward achieving the objectives of the MOU between DOC and ICANN. (more)

ICANN Meetings in Montreal, Canada

ICANN's Transition Board of Directors held a meeting in Montréal, Canada, on 26 June 2003. Several meeting topics were discussed and resolved by the Board. (more)

Deployment of Internationalized Domain Names

On 20 June, ICANN announced the commencement of global deployment of Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs), which will allow use on the Internet of domain names in languages used in all parts of the world. (more)

auDA has become aware that Domain Names Australia Pty Ltd (DNA) is sending letters and/or faxes to some domain name registrants regarding the net.au version of their .au domain name being available or unregistered. (more)

The new Australian internet domain name regime has paid handsomely for the company which now runs the .au internet name database, with registrations for the first year of its operation far higher than forecast. (more)

HKDNR held a 2-week User Survey on Second-Level ".hk" domain name in June 2003. The survey has received an overwhelming response with a considerable number of replies received. JRRS started to distribute IDN standards (RFCs) -compatible i-Nav™ plug-in for Japanese JP Domain Name on July 30, 2003. The i-Nav™ (version 4.0) can be downloaded at JPRS i-Nav™ distribution website (http://jprs.jp/i-Nav/). If you have installed previous version of i-Nav™ plug-in, you do not have to re-install version 4.0, as your i-Nav™ will be automatically updated within around a week. (more)

JPRS Will Start RFC-based Japanese JP Domain Name Registration and Management Services from July 10 - Upon Agreement of Global Framework for Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) Registration

Japan Registry Service Co., Ltd. (JPRS; Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Koki Higashida), the company responsible for the management and administration of the .JP top-level domain and operation of the domain name system (DNS), announced today that its Japanese JP domain name registration and management services will comply with RFCs for Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) from July 10, in accordance with the release of ICANN document of June 20 (US time) regarding the framework for IDN registrations, which has been developed collaboratively by JPRS, ICANN, and other domain name registries in the world. KRNIC, Global Root DNS Mirror Site Installation within South Korea

Possibly as early as the later half of this year, a root DNS mirror site will be installed here in Korea.  To install in South Korea a mirror site of the sixth root DNS among 13 that are currently in existence in the world, KRNIC (President, Song Kwan-ho) has, jointly with the Ministry of Information and Communication, negotiated with its operating agency, the Internet Software Consortium (www.isc.org) and has announced that the involved parties have mutually consented on the installation. New Internet Society Fellows Announced

Nevil Brownlee is well known in New Zealand having guided Auckland University's networking endeavours for nearly twenty years. Nevil was an key contributor to Kawaihiko, the early university network, and Tuia, the consortium that brought together the interests of both the university sector and the CRIs. Nevil and his staff at the University of Auckland provided the majority of management support for Kawaihiko, minuting meetings, managing its funds and producing periodic reports on traffic. In conjunction with TWNIC’s annual Seminar on Internet Trend 2003, the first Taiwan Internet Next Generation Camp (TWING) was held on 21st July. The Camp is programmed to provide Taiwan’s young generation the guideline of how to take part in the international Internet events.
