Meetings:

APTLD Kuala Lumpur Meeting in July

In conjunction with ICANN Kuala Lumpur Meetings, APTLD’s next Meeting is pre-scheduled on 18th July 2004 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Detailed information on the Meeting will be soon announced at www.aptld.org.

 

ICANN Kuala Lumpur Meeting

The second round of ICANN meetings in 2004 will be held 19-23 July in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The meetings are free to attend, and open to any interested person. ICANN encourages broad participation in its bottom-up consensus-development process. You can take part in these meetings by attending in person, by taking part in the webcast and remote participation opportunities, and/or by joining one of the various ICANN-related mailing lists. ccNSO KL Meeting

ccNSO Meeting also pre-scheduled on 19th and 20th. A volunteered Agenda Committee is currently working on drafting the meeting agenda and calling for public comment and suggestion. Detailed information will soon provided at ccNSO web site (ccnso.icann.org). 

 

ICANN:

ICANN Calls for Proposals to Host Meetings in 2005 and 2006

ICANN is actively soliciting proposals from organizations seeking to host an ICANN Board of Directors Meeting in 2005 and 2006. (more)

 

ICANN Posts Proposed FY 2004-05 Budget

In accordance with Article XVI, Section 4 of the ICANN Bylaws, ICANN posted its Proposed Budget for fiscal year 2004-05. The proposed budget was developed through a series of comprehensive consultations with ICANN constituencies, the Budget Advisory Group, and the ICANN Board Finance Committee. The final budget, to be adopted at ICANN's Board meeting in Kuala Lumpur on 23 July 2004, is subject to additional Budget Advisory Group and Finance Committee reviews and to public comment. ICANN Submits Ninth Status Report to the Department of Commerce

The following status report describes progress towards the completion of ICANN’s tasks under this Agreement, including implementation of ICANN's strategic plan in accordance with Section II.C.15 of Amendment 6 to the ICANN / DOC Memorandum of

U.S. Federal Court Dismisses VeriSign's Anti-trust Claim

On 18 May 2004, a U.S. Federal Judge dismissed VeriSign's anti-trust claim without prejudice. Accordingly, VeriSign has until 7 June 2004 to file an amended complaint. (more)

 

ICANN Publishes Criteria for Selecting Independent Evaluators of sTLD Proposals

ICANN is selecting a team of outside technical, business/financial and legal advisors to assist it in its review of sTLD applications. The panel members will be required to evaluate responses to the criteria and questions posted in the sTLD application procedure. The panel members will be selected based on their experience, talent and skills as they apply to the evaluation task. (more)

 

ccNSO:

Initial ccNSO Council Election

After the formation of ccNSO, the Launching Group is now conducting the Council Election. Nomination was opened on 21st April and closed on 19th May. Chris Disspain (.au), Young-Eum Lee (.kr) and Hirofumi Hotta (.jp) have been successfully nominated to stand for the Council Election as candidates of the Asia Pacific region. Deadline for ccTLD to apply to the ccNSO for membership so as to be able to vote is 9th June. More information is available at http://ccnso.icann.org/elections/.

ccNSO Membership Application Archive

In April 2004, three applications for membership were received. Two of them were suspected spam and another one from .lk was required new application. Currently, eight AP ccTLDs have joined ccNSO membership.

 

GNSO:

First Public Comment Period Begins on Draft .net Re-Assignment Criteria

The GNSO has completed initial work to provide the ICANN Board with guidance on the criteria for designating a successor operator for the .net registry. The public is invited to submit comments on the initial draft report from the GNSO. (more)

GNSO Whois Task Force Preliminary Reports

On 28 May the three GNSO Whois Task Forces submitted Preliminary Reports regarding their findings in accordance with the GNSO Policy Development Process. Further information about these Task Forces can be found on the GNSO Whois Issues webpage. A 20 day public comment period will now be opened from 28 May to 17 June. (more)

Public Comments on Proposed ASO MoU to Close 31 May 2004

On 30 March 2004, ICANN and the Numbers Resource Organisation (NRO) signed a letter of intent concerning a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organizations. A public comment forum was opened by the respective organisations on 2 April 2004. ICANN closed its public comment list for this issue on 31 May, concurrent with the closing of comments on the NRO public comment list. (more)

After few months preparation and recruitment, the 2nd TWING (Taiwan Internet Next Generation) Camp was held on 29th May. More than 100 young people have participated in this camp and discussed the trendy Internet phenomenon in Taiwan. TWNIC Launches New On-line Customer Service

To provide Internet users with better services, TWNIC has launched a web-base customer service system on May 1st. By making the interfaces simplified and categorised, TWNIC expects to respond and solve Internet users’ inquiries in a timely manner. Each end-users could also trace the process of inquiries, where as when they were using email to address their inquiries, there was no such transparency in the status of their inquiries. The British Standards Institute Accredited BS 7799:2-2002 to TWNIC

In April, Taiwan Network Information Center (TWNIC) has established Information Security Management System (ISMS) and accredited BS 7799:2-2002 by the British Standard Institute, making TWNIC the world’s first network information center (NIC) to receive such accreditation to provide international security standard services.
